Flightless astronaut

A bed, dusty sheets

Sleepless dreams

A boy, standing small

A poster on the wall

There’s a man beneath the words

Held stuck from earth by tape

Some wrinkled paragon

That boy stared straight

Some hopeless vagabond

Sweet, moon on fire

Satellites

Came and passed me by

Another night gone wasted

Wonders on the wall

That boy stared straight

Some flightless astronaut

The night, beneath the world

All black and pearled

And the wind, has seen it all

Even this wall and moon and man and astronaut

The earth and stars and Christ the day he was born

And he said “Everything matters” when he knew nothing mattered at all

Everything matters, nothing matters at all . . .
